- 2 Honeycrisp or Granny Smith apples chopped
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- A pinch of nutmeg
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup milk or milk alternative oat, almond, soy, etc.
- 2 shots of espresso or strong coffee
Prepare Apple Syrup:
Chop the apples into small pieces.
In a saucepan, combine the chopped apples, 1 cup sugar, 1 cinnamon stick, a pinch of nutmeg, and 1/2 cup water.
Bring to a boil, then simmer for 15-20 minutes until apples are soft and syrup has thickened. Stir occasionally.
Strain the mixture to remove apple pieces and spices, leaving a smooth syrup.
Make the Macchiato:
Pull 2 shots of espresso or prepare strong coffee.
Froth 1/2 cup of milk or milk alternative.
Add 2 tablespoons of homemade apple syrup to a cup.
Pour espresso over the syrup.
Carefully add frothed milk on top.
Adjust the sweetness of the apple syrup to your preference.
