Ingredients

  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee dark roast recommended for a richer mocha flavor
  • ½ cup coconut milk or substitute with almond or soy milk for a lighter version
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder or 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup for a sweeter version
  • 1 tablespoon sugar adjust to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon salt balances flavors
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract optional: try caramel extract for a unique twist
  • Ice cubes optional, for an iced version

Method

  1. Brew the Coffee: Prepare 1 cup of strong brewed coffee using your preferred method (drip, French press, or espresso).
  2. Heat the Coconut Milk: In a medium saucepan over low heat, whisk the coconut milk, cocoa powder (or chocolate syrup), sugar, and salt until well combined and warm (do not boil).
  3. Combine: Pour the brewed coffee into a mug and stir in the warmed coconut milk mixture.
  4. Enhance Flavor: Add vanilla extract and stir well. Adjust sweetness if needed.
  5. Serve: Enjoy hot, or let the mixture cool slightly and pour over ice for a chilled version.
  6. Garnish (Optional): Sprinkle cocoa powder or cinnamon on top for extra flavor.

Notes

Use espresso or cold brew for a bolder taste. Adjust sweetness by using honey, maple syrup, or sugar alternatives. Make it dairy-free with almond, oat, or soy milk. For a frothy texture, use a milk frother to blend the coconut milk before mixing. For an iced version, blend all ingredients with ice for a creamy iced mocha.
