Ingredients

  • 1 shot of espresso about 1 ounce
  • 8 ounces of whole milk
  • Optional: flavored syrups vanilla, caramel, hazelnut

Method

  1. Prepare the Espresso:
  2. Pull a shot of espresso using an espresso machine or Moka pot. Freshly ground beans work best.
  3. Heat the Milk:
  4. Warm the milk over the stove or in the microwave until steaming but not boiling.
  5. Froth the Milk:
  6. Use a milk frother to create a light, airy foam. If you don’t have a frother, a whisk works too.
  7. Layer the Milk:
  8. Pour the steamed milk into a glass, holding back the foam with a spoon. Then, add the foam on top of the steamed milk.
  9. Add the Espresso:
  10. Slowly pour the espresso over the milk and foam, creating distinct layers.

Notes

For a flavored latte macchiato, add syrup to the milk before frothing or drizzle it on top.
Using whole milk yields the best foam, but barista-style oat milk is a great dairy-free alternative.
