- 1 cinnamon stick or 1 tsp cinnamon powder
- 4 cardamom pods or 1 tsp ground cardamom
- 1 inch fresh ginger or 1 tsp ground ginger
- 3 cloves
- 1 star anise
- 5 black peppercorns
- 2 tbsp black tea leaves Assam or Darjeeling
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup milk or milk alternative
- 2 tbsp coffee brewed or espresso shot
- Sweetener to taste honey, sugar, etc.
Prepare Chai Base:
Crush cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, cloves, star anise, and black peppercorns.
Add the crushed spices and fresh ginger to 1 cup of water in a saucepan.
Bring to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes.
Add black tea leaves and let steep for 5 minutes.
Strain the mixture to remove spices and tea leaves.
Brew Coffee:
Brew 2 tbsp of your favorite coffee (using a French press, espresso maker, or any method you prefer).
Combine and Serve:
Pour the chai base back into the pot and add 1 cup of milk.
Heat gently until warm (do not boil).
Mix the chai base with the brewed coffee.
Sweeten to taste with honey or sugar.
Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy!
For a creamier texture, use whole milk or a rich milk alternative like oat milk.
Adjust the amount of spice to suit your taste.
For an extra touch, sprinkle some cinnamon or nutmeg on top.
