Steaming Cowboy Coffee in a white enamel mug on a sunlit wooden table[cite: 1]

Cowboy Coffee

Old-fashioned boiled coffee made in a pot or pan over a stove or other heat source, so it works without a coffee maker or electricity.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups water or however much you normally use
  • 3/4 cup extra water added on top of your usual amount
  • 2 tablespoons per 6oz of water ground coffee

Method

  1. Put more water in the pan than you normally would. For 3 cups, add another 3/4 cup, since some stays behind with the grounds.
  2. Set the pan on the stove or other heat source and bring it to a boil.
  3. Once it boils, stir in the coffee at 2 tablespoons per 6oz of water.
  4. Take the pan off the heat and put a lid on it.
  5. Leave it covered for a few minutes until the grounds sink to the bottom.
  6. Carefully pour into mugs, leaving the grounds behind, or run it through a filter for a smoother cup.
