Ingredients
  

  • 1 750ml bottle dry red wine (such as Chianti or Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee
  • ¼ cup brandy or orange liqueur optional
  • Juice from ½ medium orange
  • 10 to 20 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 whole star anise
  • 2 to 4 tbsp sweetener sugar or honey, to taste

Instructions
 

  • In a large pot, combine the red wine, brewed coffee, and optional brandy or liqueur.
  • Add the orange juice, whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise.
  • Stir in the sweetener, adjusting to taste.
  • Warm over low heat, allowing it to gently simmer for about 20 minutes (or longer for stronger flavors).
  • Remove from heat and strain out the spices.
  • Serve hot in mugs and enjoy!

Notes

Simmering longer enhances the spiced flavors. Garnish with an orange slice or cinnamon stick for a festive touch. Adjust sweetness based on preference—honey adds a richer depth.
